Just a day before Christmas, Filipinos are facing a disheartening surprise: another round of fuel price increases. Oil companies have announced significant hikes effective December 24th, adding to the already considerable burden on consumers.
Shell Pilipinas, for example, is implementing increases of ₱0.50 per liter for gasoline, ₱0.75 per liter for kerosene, and a substantial ₱1.45 per liter for diesel. The Department of Energy-Oil Industry Management Bureau attributes these hikes to the strengthening US dollar.
This news comes as many families are preparing for Christmas celebrations, making the timing particularly challenging. The increased cost of fuel will inevitably impact transportation, food prices, and overall household expenses, potentially dampening the festive spirit for many.
