Lucas Wong, a former member of K-pop boyband NCT and Chinese sub-unit WayV, recently made an appearance on a weekly variety show.
Last December 1, the K-pop star visited “ASAP” to perform on the variety show with his hit song “Renegade,” which was released back in April 2024.
Many have shared their sentiments online with some of them pointing out to stop giving platforms for problematic artists.
While a lot of people are displeased, several social media users showed their love and support for the K-pop idol.
In 2018, Wong made his debut as a member of the supergroup NCT under SM Entertainment.
In the lead-up to his comeback, SM Entertainment released a statement in May 2023 via X (formerly Twitter) that Lucas had officially left his former groups NCT and WayV.
Their statement reads, “We made a mutual decision to part ways with the group NCT and WayV to pursue his individual endeavors. We ask for your understanding and continuous support as this was a decision taken after much consideration of both members and all the fans who have supported.”
On his own Instagram account, Lucas apologized to his former bandmates as he announced that he will be leaving NCT and WayV.
The former NCT member then thanked the group for their support and compassion, stating that he feels leaving the group was the “right decision.”
Prior to announcing his exit, Lucas had been absent from the group since August 2021 following allegations of gaslighting, cheating, and exploiting his previous partners.
In the documentary series “Freeze” and “Unfreeze,” he addressed the controversy by discussing his declining mental health and how he handled the aftermath of the scandal, taking a break from the spotlight.
Wong will be one of the artists performing at V1BE Manila 2024: Akon The Superfan Tour happening this December 3 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
